ShiGGa Shay is a Singapore-based rapper and film-maker who directs and edits all his own Music Videos.
The 22 year old Hip-Hop artist has performed twice for Singapore’s National Day Parade, Singapore’s most-watched live telecasted event (in 2010 and 2014) and several South Asian music festivals like Yfest (SG), Raising The Bar (MY), etc. He has released a mixtape ShiGGa Shay’s In The Building in 2011 and an EP They Call Me ShiGGa in 2012.
ShiGGa Shay has a knack for crafting music which instantly connects with the Singapore audience, appealing to the everyman. His current single ‘Lion City Kia’ (Hokkien slang for ‘Lion City Kid’) has drawn extremely favourable reviews and accolades in the media upon its release in August 2014. The video and song have since ingrained itself as a pop culture reference in the minds of young Singaporeans with the chorus: “Born and raised/ Lion City Kia”.
August 2014 also sees his first-ever magazine cover on Singapore’s top lifestyle & culture magazine, JUICE. He has a 4-page spread about his craft and plans for his upcoming full-length album and his upcoming shows.
In July 2013, ShiGGa Shay released his English-Chinese-Hokkien single 'LIMPEH' (Hokkien slang for 'your father') which has stayed No. 1 on the iTunes Singapore Charts for 14 days straight and charted the iTunes Malaysia Hip-Hop charts at No. 2. The Music Video has garnered more than 500,000 views on YouTube and garnered him nationwide publicity and accolades.
2015 sees his career take on greater heights as he is involved in several huge projects. He is named Swiss chocolate bar, Top XL’s Singapore ambassador. As part of Singapore’s SG50 jubilee music project Sing Love, he has been personally handpicked by one of Mandopop’s biggest artists Stefanie Sun 孙燕姿 to work with her on ‘简爱 Simple Love’.
